Talk at 12:00: Julie Johnston, ESH-20, LANL Deviating from the Standard Mean: A Women Scientist |

"This talk spans my career transition beginning with many years as a mathematics teacher then three different position here at LANL: a coordinator for science outreach, a program developer and trainer at TA-55, and my current position as a team leader in the Ecology Group. While completing a Ph.D. program at UNM in 1991, I decided to transition from teaching in a classroom to educating the public. Being raised by a mother in TV media relations and a father who was a photographer, it has become obvious to me how my career has shifted to one that involves educating others about environmental science."
"Among my current responsibilities are coordinating the LANL annual reports Environmental Surveillance at Los Alamos and For the Seventh Generation: Environment, Safety, and Health at Los Alamos National Laboratory: A Report to Our Communities. As a team leader for the Publications and Design Team in ESH Division's Ecology Group, ESH-20, I supervise and guide the work of a small team of technical writer-editors, graphics specialists, and wordprocessors-photocompositors; this team produces visually stunning publications. An additional part of my LANL job is co-chair person for one of the LANL diversity working groups which involves steering various diversity-related initiatives such as Dollars for Scholars. My talk for the Los Alamos Women in Science will be presented through photographs that illustrate my career and current work."
Sideroom C is reserved from 11:30 to 1:30 for people who like to eat earlier or later, and informal discussion. You are welcome to come for just the talk at noon.
