Talk at 12:00: Carol J. Burns, CST-18, LANL "Nonaqueous Actinide Coordination and Organometallic Chemistry" |
|

"Investigation of both aqueous and nonaqueous chemistry of the actinides is necessary to provide a truly comprehensive set of chemical environments in which to probe characteristics of metal-ligand bonding, and generate data with which to benchmark more widely applicable theoretical models of chemical behavior. Building on a number of now well-established molecular environments for the early actinides, we are focusing attention on the chemistry of complexes containing metal-ligand multiple bonds in non-aqueous media, including both investigations of actinyl ions and their non-oxo analogs. These investigations are changing the way we view the chemical behavior of the actinides."
"In addition, I would like to share some of my recent experiences as a Fellow of the Leadership Foundation of the International Women's Forum. This year has been a great opportunity to reflect on career and life. The Fellows have been fortunate to interact with a large number of successful women, many of whom have some common perspectives on finding success."
Sideroom A is reserved from 11:30 to 1:30 for people who like to eat earlier or later, and informal discussion. You are welcome to come for just the talk at noon, and questions are encouraged!
